Nelnet honored more than 60 students of North Georgia College & State University who were deployed for active duty with the Georgia Army National Guard’s 48th Brigade. The cadets served in Iraq for one year and returned to school for the fall 2006 semester. A Welcome Home ceremony was held August 28 on the campus drill field in Dahlonega, Georgia.

The event featured remarks from Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue, Dahlonega Mayor Gary McCullough, 48th Brigade Commander Brig. Gen. Stewart Rodeheaver, as well as Nelnet President Jeff Noordhoek.

Nelnet presented a plaque, which includes a group photo of the cadets, as well as a commemorative Georgia coin to each student. In addition, local retailers provided welcome home baskets at the celebration.
